Hands-on Wildlife Rescue, Care, and Education Experience
Our internship is a non-paid work/learning experience for individuals interested in wildlife. Interns are typically majoring in one or more of the following areas of study: Biology, Zoology, Psychobiology, Wildlife Ecology or Management, Environmental Science, Veterinary Science or a related science field. In some cases, you may be eligible to receive college credit for your internship.
We are currently seeking college students and recent graduates to participate in the MWC Internship Program. We are looking for eager learners interested in participating in all aspects of rehabilitation
Qualifications
18 years of age or older and must have own transportation.
Must be rabies vaccinated, and up to date on tetanus shot
Current college students, or recent graduate
Strong work ethic, enthusiasm, flexibility, willingness to get dirty
Ability to occasionally lift 50 lbs., and engage in consistent physical activities
Prior experience with animals a plus
Responsibilities
Aid in providing daily care of wildlife, including but not limited to diet preparation, habitat cleaning, and medical care.
Provide enrichment opportunities for wildlife
Help maintain files and records
Interface with public by phone or in person to answer questions about wildlife. Interns receive valuable experience in all aspects of wildlife rehabilitation from intake to release: species identification, animal behavior, proper handling and restraint, basic medical procedures, preparation of appropriate diets for each species, feeding and medication administration, emergency care, daily care and feeding of residents and their laundry and enclosures while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and repetitive cleaning of the center. Fieldwork includes participating in rescue, transport and release.
Internship Dates
Summer Internships are full time and will include some weekend hours
